Grandmaster Victor "Sonny"
Gascon
10-25-04
Sonny Gascon is the Founder of Karazenpo
Go Shinjutsu (a.k.a. Shaolin Kempo Karate), one of the most
practiced arts in the entire world. Taught to his student George
Pesare, who in turn taught it to Nick Cerio, who was the instructor
of Fred Villari, this Kajukenbo derivative has tens of thousands
of practitioners in the USA alone. Today, thanks to my instructor,
and good friend, KenpoJoe Rebelo,
I finally fulfilled a dream I have had for many many years. To
meet Grandmaster Gascon. I was fortunate enough to have a chance
to sit in private with GM Gascon and ask him just about every
question I've ever had about my art, from it's Kajukenbo origins,
to how he got the nickname "Sonny." To say this was
one of the greatest experiences of my life, and one I will cherish
for all eternity, would be an understatement. GM Gascon is the
kindest, most caring individual I have ever met. The phrase "To
know him is to love him" is overused, but in this case, it
is 110% accurate. I was also blessed with the good fortune to
meet GM Gascon's two top students, Professor Mike Rash, and Sigung
Brad Namahoe (Whom I hope to see do a breaking demonstration someday!).
Again, thank you for everything you have done for the Martial
Arts Grandmaster Gascon, you truly are a living legend! Aloha!
